Blazing the Trail: Sue Thomas Leads the Way to Two-Way Communication​ 

Congratulations to Bright Spots winner Sue Thomas of the East Coast Migrant Head Start Project​! 

Why Was Sue Nominated? 

We’re shining our Bright Spots spotlight on Sue Thomas, an all-star partner helping us shape the future of two-way communication with parents and guardians, all within ChildPlus! 

Sue is beta-testing our new two-way communication feature, which will be available within ChildPlus Online for agencies and as a downloadable app for parents. 

 But she’s not just testing it — she’s trailblazing! 

Identifying the Challenge​ 

As part of the parent onboarding experience, ChildPlus created an English-language handout to guide families through registration and setup. But Sue recognized the need to reach even more families — and she stepped up without missing a beat.  

She provided us with an initial Spanish translation of the parent/guardian handout, which allowed our designers to finalize and format the Spanish version of the parent handout much sooner than expected.  

Thanks to Sue’s initiative, we’ll launch the app with both English and Spanish versions of our parent/guardian handout available immediately!  

Still Working to Improve the App 

Sue’s work to help us get English and Spanish versions of the handout compete was invaluable. But she didn’t stop there! 

Sue is coordinating a designated group of users at her agency to collect feedback, identify bugs and share what’s working and what could be improved on this new communication feature. 

Her feedback is critical in helping fine-tune the app before its full release to the ChildPlus community. And yes — Sue is doing all of this on top of her existing job responsibilities!​ 

Sue’s collaboration, commitment and insights are helping us ensure that this new feature is accessible, inclusive and ready to serve agencies and families everywhere.​
